I want cow damn it....

I'm nominally Catholic. My parents are 100% practicing Catholic (although it's probably been about a year since my father set foot inside a church). Actually my dad and I have that in common :). We don't do the popular Christian thing of going to church on the holidays, we usually only show up if someone is dead or if someone is getting hitched. ... Errrr were was I? Oh, right my folks are Catholic. As a result, my mom just informed me that it's a sin to eat beef today. Apparently though it's ok to eat fish stuff. I don't get it. It seems like such an arbitrary thing. I'm still debating what my thoughts are about this. I've never been good at keeping track of these things. Heck, I have a hard time remembering to eat until I'm starving (which is why dinner is often at 10-11 for me).

When I was in school, I was the person who'd be downing a big ass Whopper when my more religious non-sinning friends would show up with fish stuff. It never failed, this would happen, and I'd be completely shocked that there was some rule about what we could or could not eat on a certain day. Even though this happened year after year after year. It didn't matter, without fail, on the day when we couldn't eat item X, I would have had a big heaping serving of X before talking to anyone who might mention this problem. In fact several times, I forgot about this detail in the course of the day. My friends might mention it during lunch when I was mid-Whopper, and then we'd meet up for dinner and I have a steak & cheese sub or something like that and I wouldn't realize it until I was mid sub...

Heck, it took about 20 some odd years for me to remember that Mardi Gras is immediately before Ash Wednesday and it's taken at least 25 for me to realize that Ash Wednesday is one of those days.

Hey, speaking of which, in honor of Ash Wednesday, I sense an Evil Dead and/or Army of Darkness screening coming on tonight. Yup yup, gotta keep those little traditions alive :)
