Well, I did it.

I joined the gym yesterday afternoon and I went to go work out last night. I just really like the idea of wandering out around 11pm to go work-out and sadly, that's when I'm most likely to make it out. I just don't have the patience to put up with loads of people and traffic etc...

I did about 50 minutes on the elliptical machine. That came out to about 3.22 miles and about 4500 strides. I was able to keep my heart rate up around 175-182 for most of the 40 minute work out (with a 5 minute warm-up and 5 minute cool-down). All things considered I feel good. I was a little sore this morning, but nothing unbearable. I think I'm going to stick to just doing cardio for a week or so until I feel a little less like passing out at the end of the work-out (no, it wasn't that bad, but I think you can imagine the feeling). I might also try the Yoga class they have (P is really big on Yoga). We'll see, right now I'm still just aiming to get back into the groove of doing the hardcore work-out thing.

I think I can legitimately aim to be in good shape by the end of summer if I keep up my current work-out plan. After a few weeks, I'll track down one of the trainers and see if they have any useful suggestions. EP Fitness is a tad pricey to join, but they do have a fairly insane amount of stuff (including nutrition classes and 3 complimentary visits with a trainer). This should be fun (in a painful sort of way).
