Some people....

have way too much time on their hands.

No, damn it! I'm not one of them :-p. I'm actually sitting here waiting for 2 things. One being a check for that account I mentioned a couple of posts ago. We decided to pay them the actual $$ that we owe them in materials and then fight over the $1500 in interest that they wrongfully charged us. Two being signatures from my folks on a deed for some land that they just sold. I then get to truck out to my lawyer brother's office and iron out some of the details of what's going on with those 2 things.

Fairly minor stuff, but it does tend to drive me batty when I'm stuck sitting and waiting for stuff to be done.

So, the reasons for this post is that I'm fed up with webpages. Specifically, I'm fed up with web pages that belong to people with way too much time on their hands. Especially those people who use this time to generate very artistic images and graphics for their webpages and then forget to test something as simple as "Will people be able to read white text on a mottled mostly yellow background?" or "Do all the links lead to something?" Ideally the last question would be something useful, but at this point, I'll settle for people making links that go to anything at all other than a 404 page.

Then again, this seems to be a recurring theme with so much software lately. I'm seriously impressed at the art that people can generate for video games and web pages and all sorts of other things, but I'm really not loving how much all those things tend to not work. Would it really be that crazy to make sure stuff is working right before you get the art done and in place?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that my web work is fabulous or even terribly interesting, but I know that I spent a decent amount of time making sure that the colors worked right, and that you wouldn't get hopelessly lost, and my webpages won't make anyone's browser crash or act grumpy. I figure that's a start right? :)

Some closing thoughts, white is hard to read on yellow. More than 1 or 2 blinking or bouncing animations on a page are annoying (and even those get old after a minute or two). Flashing text is evil. Just because you can use the latest greatest multimedia software does not mean you should (I really don't need a flash presentation of your name on the title screen). For that matter if you can't code, don't try to cram Java/javascript goodies onto your webpage. If my browser crashes, hangs, or whimpers in pain when I load up a page, I'm not likely to stay there very long if at all.

That is all (for now ;)
