A fluffy geeky post.

So what was I doing from about midnight to 5am last night?

If you guessed sleeping then you haven't been paying attention lately :-p

If you guessed compiling software to do DVD stuff on linux, you'd win the prize.

After doing some reading on the subject, I figured out that I wanted to compile and install about a dozen programs in order to get all the functionality that I wanted. I got about 9-10 of them working before I decided to call it a night (err... morning). Moya doesn't quite have all the functionality (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) that I wanted, but she'll have it soon enough.

In the meantime she can now play DVDs and I have to say, I was really impressed with how well xine works (and how well Moya is working in general). I'm really quite amazed at how well video support works in Linux (and I'm very glad I got that new video card), the setup is a bit daunting, but once it's all working it's so much nicer (i.e. easier, cheaper and more functional) than Windoze.

So needless to say, I ran through a dozen or so DVDs to see just how well they all worked. Every single one (new and old) worked flawlessly. I was even able to play around with some screen caps.

Independance Day

This is one of my all time favorite effects shots (slightly edited from the actual screen cap). I guess I just have a thing for images of destruction and mayhem ;).

Guns? Check.
Explosion? Check.
Hot girl? Check.
Guitar case full of guns? Check.
"Let's play."

Fist of Legend

Jet Li about to engage in some righteous ass kicking in a remake of the Bruce Lee classic (The Chinese Connection). Either way we're talking Kung Fu fun at it's finest.

So, yeah, I sense that we'll be seeing a few new icons and possibly a whole movie based mood theme (yeah, I need to get out more ;).

mmmm... mooooovies... *drool*
