Quotable Quotes

Oh, and best line of the night:

"I'm not ghetto, but my neighbors are."

well they are...
yes, yes they are.
ok this is the perfect opportunity for me (note: i am aussie) to ask what ghetto means.

i have wondered ever since year eleven.
Your question made me curious as to what the actual definition of ghetto was and how it came to be used the way it is now (yes, I am a geek ;). Dictionary.com says:

ghetto n 1: formerly the restricted quarter of many European cities in which Jews were required to live; 2: any segregated mode of living or working that results from bias or stereotyping; 3: a poor densely populated city district occupied by a minority ethnic group linked together by economic hardship and social restrictions

which eventually came to mean something cheap/tacky/in poor taste that you'd be likely to find in a ghetto as per the "poor densely populated city district" definition. So this would be things like tricked out lowriders with $2,000 wheels and primer for pain, people on welfare with expensive cell phones ;), etc...

In the most general terms it seems to mean something very cheap/tacky and it often implies that the person doing or possessing something that is "ghetto" doesn't realize that it is. Kind of like the modern inner city version of the Beverly Hillbillies (did you ever watch that show).
