Oooooow! Trying this again :-/

Once again I am going cold turkey from caffeine. The last time I really succeeded in doing so was when I was really sick a little over a year ago. I've decided to make myself healthy again before I get sick (novel idea, I know).

I finished my last Mountain Dew this morning and my head feels like my brain is two sizes too big for my skull... As you might imagine, I am not a happy camper. Hopefully though this will largely be gone by the end of the weekend. In the meantime if I'm a little short tempered it's because I'm going through particularly painful caffeine withdrawal (of course once I'm done with that I'll have to come up with another reason about why I'm mean and snarky :-p ).


I did the same thing several years ago. I didn't give up caffeine entirely, but I cut way back on my consumption. As you stated, that first week is a killer, but once you make it past the nasty headaches, you're in the clear. Drink lots of water. I know that doesn't make much sense now, but the more hydrated you are, the less likely that you will feel all the discomforts as you make the transition. Good luck! You can do it!
Well I think the worse is over now.

Of course it didn't help that I came down with a cold the 2nd day into withdrawl so I got to do a really good junkie impression for a couple of days there.

BTW, thanks for the water tip, that helped a LOT. It still sucked, but it sucked a lot less than the other times I've done it.
Ah, the joys of stress. Given what you've been through, a slight dependence on legally addictive stimulants seems reasonable.

Personally I just hit a point where I did not want to become the fat nerd with a 2-years supply of mountain dew in the fridge. Drinking so much caffeine and sugar was definitely doing bad things and it was time to stop and try taking care of myself again.
